The Person-
Name: Udara Aiuola Dunia (Apparently this literally means "Earth's Air" in Malay as someone on DA pointed out to me. Go me!)
Birthdate: September 20th
Age: 23
Personality: Udara is the only daughter of the Dean of Academics, Dr. Maso Dunia, at the University of Madras in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. She is soft spoken and extremely intelligent as she focuses on a double doctorate in Archeology and Mythology with minors in Cultural Studies, Language and Ancient Religions. Of course, having a study load like that would lead one to believe the girl was a "career student", and such an assumption would be, in a way, very true. As the Dean's daughter it is her wish in life to also teach and bring great honor to her school, her home, where she was born and raised within its warm walls and played often in the great gardens by the ocean.
Often referred to as "Madras' Princess" by many of the faculty and staff, Udara does her best to make these people, who she considers to be an extended family, proud. The blue haired student is calm, kind, and considers herself no different from any of the various students who also walk within the walls of the University. She is quick to befriend any who come her way, though she is still often shy, afraid that because of her father's standing she will be viewed in a more negative light: as if she was more like the social butterfly of the University then a girl with the real intent of friendship. Her years being raised at the University have seen many students and friends come and go. It is lonely, though she has made many "pen pals" and contacts who have spread out among the other planets.
Self Perception: She feels she is content, wishes she understood how to be more out-going, and tries her best to lead by example. She feels that as the dean's daughter she has a responsibility and obligation to the school to be a professor, though she would never call such a responsibility a burden. Udara very much looks forward to the contributions she can make to her father's school and works very, very hard to be the best in her class for, if anything, herself.
Mannerisms: Udara is overly-polite, soft spoken, and fidgets when nervous. She will chew on the inside of her cheek when deep in thought, bows to everyone (including teachers, instructors, and the parents of those she tutors), and shifts on her feet constantly if she is uncomfortable. However when in the halls she keeps her head up high, as if she had an air of royalty. It's usually because she's day-dreaming and off in her own little world!
Pet Peeves: She absolutely cannot stand rings on the table/counters from drinks, or shoes in the house! She despises confrontation, and prefers to speak calmly in a disagreement or avoid it all together by agreeing in the first place. Loud people put her on edge. People who speak as if they are the foremost expert on things when they are truly ignorant of what they speak of makes her very angry. Especially if they have taken little to no interest in actually researching such facts before they speak!
Hobbies: Plays the flute, reading, taking walks through the university gardens, and writing in her journal and to her "pen-pals".
Habits: She hums to herself, a lot. Even when someone is talking to her she will hum ever so softly. She *is* listening, honestly! It helps her internalize the conversation, setting words to music. People who know her don't really think much of it anymore, she responds appropriately so they know she is paying attention and not just daydreaming. Her mother hums all the time, it's a comfort to her.
Family: Hana Dunia - Mother (53) - Hana is a charitable person filled with empathy, spirituality, and warmth. She often seems regal, proper and stern though she is very understanding of her husband's and daughter's pursuit of knowledge, as she is the very same. Hana is a professor of spiritualism and gives many classes on new-age religion, meditation, and research into the use of crystals and herbs in healing. Many mornings she can be found on the beach with her early classes taking in the healing power of the sun's rays and the smell of salt on the sea as India wakes to a new day. At night she burns candles in the gardens and closes out her days with deep breathing techniques, leading prayers into the heavens to the stars. She is very proud of her daughter, predicting at the night of her birth that she would grow to be someone truly outstanding.
Maso Dunia - Father (55) - Maso is a busy man. A man dedicated to knowledge and the understanding of everything. Past, present and future. While he not only runs the school he teaches every chance he gets, preferring to be among his own students then his staff. In this way he is kind of like the "kooky old professor" of the school, holding on tightly to his days of exploration and enlightenment. Maso's main degrees are in Language, Theology, Philosophy and Eastern History, though he enjoys randomly showing up in classes to hear what other members of his faculty are teaching.
Maso loves food, and has an insatiable sweet-tooth. Many students have made the mistake of gifting him sweets in order to gain favor. Dr. Dunia shows no favor, only faith, and favors the food over the student. He also does not share. Ever.
Residence: Two-bedroom apartment, very modest, just a little off campus nearer to the beach she loves so much. She (happily) shares this with Mami-Rin Meiyahima.
Occupation: Tutor at the University, student.
Social Status: Extremely high in academia and the city of Chennai. Though known as nothing more then the Dean's daughter among other institutions.
Income: Moderate. An "allowance" funds her needs and some modest wants, while her books, tools and other items for class are provided by her father. She never charges for tutoring as she feels that her time and assistance should be readily available to any that ask for it... from one student to another.
Established Connections: Ruo Meyahima and Mami-Rin Meyahima of Neptune, Liora Satomi and the Satomi Family of Venus
Talents: Music, an amazing memory
Strengths: Very understanding, wise, perceptive of other people and her surroundings, bit of a neat freak.
Weaknesses: Can be very shy, easily spoken over, has a hard time being assertive with anyone close to her. She often finds herself giving away all of her free time to those in need of her assistance. She is selfless to a fault and has a need to make sure she brings no dishonor or disappointment to her school.
Appearance-
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 135 lbs
Hair & Eyes: Full, light blue hair (mid-back length, chin length in front and blended towards her shoulders) with cherry pink eyes.
Body Type: Lean
Dress Style: Conservative, in light colors/white, long skirts or wide flowing slacks, prefers sandals or flat shoes (preferably sandals!) and the traditional dress of Hindi women (worn in brighter colors).
Noticeable Scars or Marks: none to date
General Description: Dark olive complexion (Indian/Hindu heritage) with delicate hands and long slender fingers. Her ears are pierced multiple times (four in each with a cartilage a piece) and a small white stone in her nose, traditional of Hindu women.
Character-
Biography: Hana and Maso made the University of Madras, and the city of Chennai, their home when Maso took a seat on the Board of Directors. When their first and only daughter was born the school was very much her home as both parents taught there. At the age of three she accompanied Hana to her first class since her birth and quickly grew accustomed to the gardens and the grounds.
When Maso was appointed Dean Udara found herself at the University more often then not. She learned of very advanced subjects at a young age, and learned a very disciplined study habit from the older students she became acquainted with. This study habit and curiosity for all things she could learn was carried with her through her primary education, and gave her an edge over a lot of classmates. Her homework was done in the vast library at Madras, and many of the long-term students lent their hands in helping her study. If she was more interested in a subject, or her curiosity was sparked, some of the professors who had come to know her well could always suggest further readings for her.
While knowing so many esteemed people growing up, it was also very sad. Students, and friends, came and went in cycles. Some kept in contact, always eagerly and plenty at first but slowly over time contact would cease as students moved on with careers and became too busy to keep in touch with the young daughter of Madras' Dean. Her best friends were books and older professors, secretaries and ancient halls walked by great men and women of knowledge so many years before her.
Naturally, Madras would be her school of choice as Udara developed a deep love for the University that raised her. She decided that she too would pledge her life to its great history of academics and carry on the name of the Drs. Dunia. The faculty have all but promised her a seat on the Board, eagerly awaiting the day that she can join their ranks and lessons, and get her years put in before her induction into the esteemed circle. It is not within her ability to follow her father's footsteps and lead the school as Dean.
Education: Attending doctoral studies, fourth year in pursuit of doctorates.
Beliefs: She believes in nature, a higher power, and the power of ones own mind, body and spirit. As her mother has taught her, there is a delicate balance to everything. As her studies have taught her, this balance can exist in many forms, be called many things, but it is all the same when you strip it to the basic, fundamental essences of beliefs.
Goals: To be the best she can, to be happy, to be proud of her work. To carry on her father's good name, and to be a major part of her school, repaying them for everything they have given her.
Favorite Food: Chai, tea, strong coffee and vegetables.
Favorite Activity: Watching the waves, conversing with other students about class.
Favorite Memory: Her graduation party hosted in the main courtyard by the faculty after completing her 12 years of primary education.
Other: Udara started a strong friendship with Ruo Meyahima of Neptune and his younger sister Mami-Rin, whose father Satoshi is a long time acquaintance of Dr. Dunia and decided to send his son and daughter to Chennai for their education under the watchful eyes of Maso and Hana. When Ruo was recalled back to Neptune because of, what he said was, the escalation of the civil war before he completed his studies Udara kept in contact with him, writing to him to make sure he was, for lack of a better term, alive. Udara worries constantly about him, and has a habit of sending him interesting little "education packages" (complete with tea and chai) put together by her and Mami to try and keep him up in his studies. Though she knows he probably has no time to devote to studies, it's the best way she knows how to let him know she still worries about him.
Udara was also introduced to Liora at UCLAs. Well, it wasn't so much an introduction as it was Liora running down the halls screaming for her to stop. As a student of fashion and design Udara's dress was absolutely *breathtaking* to the budding artist and Liora just had to take a gander at her, study the patterns and colors upon the scholar before her. Luckily Udara had some time as Hana was about to speak for Juro, and the girls have been in close contact ever since!
The Senshi/Knight (if applicable)-
Identity: Sailor Earth
Element: Earth/Botanicals (plants)
Gemstone: Quartz
Symbol:
Transformation Sequence (long): I am the Oracle, Gaia incarnate! Flora, Fauna, Harmony, Earth!
-Udara waves her hand before her Tikka, triggering the gem and beads to glow. After the sequence is uttered the green gem emits a cool soft green mist that envelops her body and melts away her civilian clothes, while the blue beads emit a shower of blue petals that swirl about her body. A warm breeze lifts her slightly off the ground, lifting her hair as if she were under water. After a few moments the green mist leaves her body as the blue petals begin to replace it with her fuku, until the mist completely gathers in her right hand to form her staff, the Staff of Elements.-
Transformation Sequence (short): "Gaia incarnate, Harmony of Earth!"
-Udara touches the green gem of her Tikka, causing a green light to envelope her body while the blue beads send out a swirling dust of petals that form her fuku. The glow from her Tikka gives way and forms her tiara holding the green gem.-
Transformation Item: A traditional pendant worn at the part of her hair that hangs down onto her forehead, called a "tikka". It is silver, simple, with a green tear-drop stone. (See www.kaneesha.com/jewelry_images/TK06153_display.jpg where gold would be silver, and the red beads would be blue.)
Weapon (if applicable): "The Staff of Elements" - A tall staff maybe a foot taller then her own height with a solid silver fixture at the top (medium sized) in the shape of a closed crescent with a smaller silver orb attached to the thin side of the circle (to represent the moon, the earth as the negative space, and the sun eclipsing together). Two thick, shear scarves (one blue, one green) tie around the base of the fixture.
Abilities/Attacks (in order of appearance):
1. Gaia's Choking Grasp - Udara's blue sash from her staff is removed (pulled off easily) and held before her in her outstretched hand (palm up). The attack is called after she blows the sash from her hand and as it floats it bursts into a concoction of petals, leaves, seeds and other light plant-life. This can wrap around enemies, blind, choke, or when thrown forcefully, throw them a distance. It is a pointed attack that can focus on one or two enemies depending.
2. Force of Earth - The blue sash is pulled to leave the green sash attached to the staff. Udara takes the staff in both hands and arches it out before her horizontally while calling the ability. The ground just before her rumbles and shoots up to form a protecting semi-dome like wall to guard her and whoever she is standing before. In this fashion she can also direct the "stream" of earth with her staff, throwing it in the direction of her enemies or using it to entrap them. The more this ability is used, the weaker the wall becomes.
3. Healing Garden - As the name suggests this is not an attack. Udara is able to pull her green sash from her staff and lay it upon a grave injury to speed up the healing process. The reason the injury must be extreme is because with this ability, in order for the healing to take place, Udara must trade her own life energy to help her fellow teammates. She can only do this once in a very great while (days to weeks, depending on the severity of the injury and how far along she pushes the mending process) as it takes her a long time to recover her strength again. There are limits to what she can heal. Illness, death and psychological damages are outside of her powers. However poison and varying degrees of physical damage can be healed, or at least helped.
Elementals (unique to Earth):
Batu - Elemental Earth
~Batu is the corporeal embodiment of Udara's powers of earth. He is an elemental being that stands about two feet tall and looks more like a snow-man made out of rock then a human figure. To call for him all Udara has to do is drop her blue scarf on the ground and call for him. ("Come to my aid, Batu!") The scarf turns dark, hardens, and grows to form the little creature. He can be considered a living being, as he has a voice, a personality and a mind of his own. His personality can be described as abrasive as he has a rather obvious attitude problem!
Attacks:
"Shifting Sands" - Slams his fists into the ground to open up a sand pit beneath the feet of his enemies, slowing them down or hopefully sinking them. This pit is wide enough for one to two people and is only about calf-deep.
"Landslide" - Causes the ground beneath to shift and crack throwing up dirt and rocks to pummel his targets. An area effect attack most useful against several targets to cause confusion and distraction.
Fiore - Elemental Plant
~Fiore is a green nymph somewhat smaller then Batu, and embodies Udara's power of plant-life. Her long wild green hair has a variety of vines and leaves braided into her grass green locks while her clothing is an a-line skirt of woven blossoms and a top of two blossoms held by vines in a bikini-top like fashion. She is called from Udara's green scarf where she tosses it into the air ("Come to my aid, Fiore!") as it twists and twirls until the scarf is more hair then material and out flies the nymph to land gracefully upon the ground. Like Batu, Fiore has her own personality, a sweet and soothing little thing that has a sassy mouth and quick temper.
Abilities:
"Nature's Army" - A hand full of leaves are pulled from her skirt and tossed into the air. These leaves each turn into a lasher plant that resemble walking piranha plants who swarm and attack their target. They are limited in number, if squashed or killed more leaves can create more plants. Their bites are sharp and iron strong, and they inject a poison that stings and irritates the skin to burn and turn red like a horrible case of poison ivy. They are easily taken out.
"Soothing Shower" - A healing mist that is poured from her very breath. It can sooth and cure scrapes, cuts, bruises and null poisons. When working with Udara to help heal she is much more effective and can heal larger hurts. Like her mistress healing takes up her energy. So she can heal several small hurts, or a few large ones. If the severity calls for her to work in tandem with Udara she will return to her "sleeping" form (the scarf) and rest.
Combination Attack: Final attack
"Fury of Nature" - This attack combines the powers of Fiore, Batu and Udara together letting the three channel each other which allows for a faster build up of power and a sudden release. Fiore dissolves giving Udara shimmering green wings while Batu forms a "crown" around her head. Holding her staff in both hands and aiming it out (almost in the same way Cannon Sailor Pluto delivers her "Dead Scream" attack) all three voices are heard calling the attack. All sound around her stops. The ground beneath the target splits open with a loud crack, like an earthquake, tossing the target up off their feet while a searing ball of blue-green energy is launched from the staff, slamming into them. This can only be done once in the most dire of circumstances.
Both elementals are incredibly possessive of Udara and will argue between themselves. The are also incredibly protective of her. Usually they will only be called out when Udara is transformed. However, as her powers grow she will be able to call them out even just to keep her company. While the elementals are in form she is unable to use her own personal attacks, as Fiore and Batu are the personification of her powers. (It would be silly to be able to use them *and* talk to them at the same time!) While they are in scarf form they consider it "resting" and easily snap at anyone who dares refer to them as "The Talking Scarves". If they are called back they revert to scarves and reattach to the staff. If they are knocked out of combat they will simply fall back to the ground as dirty, tattered scarves. Only when Udara drops her Senshi powers will they return to the staff, ready for battle the next time they are called upon!
Fuku-
Description: (This was a commission done for me by the very talented Etusia on DA of Udara as Earth and her final Fuku, and Ruo in traditional Hindu dress. Well... as traditional as I could make it.)
Color Palette: White, Blues and Greens
Why did you choose this palette: As the senshi of earth I felt a pallet that represented more of a nature-like scheme would fit well without being overly bright, as Udara is not a very forward and vivid person, but rather subtle and soft.
The Planet:
Planet: Earth
Climate: Same as present day earth
Theme: Academics, Spiritual Wellbeing, Nature
Hot Spots: The University of Athens, Greece - The central university of Earth, housing the greatest minds with the most expansive library. This is *the* center of academia, with yearly conferences being held. Students are accepted into this school by invitation only, not application. Dr. Maso Dunia has many contacts here, and was invited to teach among its various faculty.
UCLAs (University of California, Los Angeles State) - What was once the most prestigious school in Los Angeles, now the most prestigious school in the once state of California with its campus taking up most of the old Los Angeles city limit. The dean of UCLAs, the college friend of Maso Dunia, is Dr. Juro Saipere who has his degree in Mythology, Language and Occult studies, and has more connections among the stars then his cat has hair. Juro tried more then once to "steal" Udara to his school, and visits Chennai often. UCLAs specializes in medicine, healing, and spiritual balance. Hana often attends confrences and hosts talks at Juro's invitation.
Tea to Dream Cafe - Udara's favorite cafe in Chennai, three blocks from the University and two from the beach. She and Mami-Rin stop there often!
Market Row - The public market in Chennai where various traders from all over the solar system set up to trade their goods to staff and students alike.
Short Description: a place of health, knowledge, rejuvenation, balance, and peace. The major cities of present day are long gone, replaced by great universities, cities that are now centers of learning and enlightenment housing great minds, students and pilgrims of knowledge, the lush green of forests and gardens, the balance of nature has been allowed to return. Technology has allowed to the complete cut of emissions and the sky is blue to a crystalline degree. The students and professors of the world work very hard to keep it that way.
