Udara:
I'm sorry I didn't respond to your last letter. There is no need for you to worry. My tours have only been in the Southern Seas so far. All very routine. I've only been to the Border Waters and Neutral Zones once as a convoy for the ambassadors. Nothing eventful happened. In all actuality, compared to the stories I would receive via letter from Ryonosuke, its all rather dull. Not that I'm complaining. I actually like it much better this way. I'm not anxious for battle. Captain Yuuko tells me I'm more than ready to hold my own, but between you and me, I'm not cut out for this.
I'm surprised you aren't more flattered that you had such a turn-out for your lecture. You are a great speaker, even if you hate lecturing like that. Mami says its because you're hawt...well...
recording paused for indiscernible noises
Udara, "hawt" means Good Looking, Sexy, Attractive. But I'm sure you had such a turn out because people wanted to hear your lecture and not stare at you. Not that you're not...uh...attractive or anything. You are. But...uh...

Yeah,...anyway, Madaras's anniversary. It doesn't look as though I'll be able to attend. I'm reporting to Commander Zoa tomorrow morning for my new tour assignment. I'm not sure how long it will be or where, but I'll see what I can do. Maybe I can request some leave time for honor of the University. Just a couple of days. Enough for a visit. I can't promise though. Tell Dr. Dunia I'll do my best.
Mother will not be coming with me if I get a chance to go. She has not left her apartment on Triton for the past four months. Not even to go to market. She used to love to go to market when it was still planet side. She used to take us kids with her then. Takio, Mother's housemaid, does all the shopping now. She says Mother barely leaves the bedroom. It worries me. I should visit more often.

I'd be very interested in that book when you are done with it. It sounds fascinating as well as a good read. I wished I had a chance to visit Venus and Mercury while I was in the Inner Planet Circle. It would have added a lot to my studies. Not that it does me much good now, but the distraction would be nice.
Don't let Mami get the better of you, Udara, she's good at that. It took me 17 years to get a good defense going. Don't let her wrap your father around her finger. She's good at that too.
Tell Liora I said hello and give my best to your parents.
Sincierly,
Ruo Meiyahima

Ruo reached over and tapped the recorder's glossy top to end his recording to Udara. He'd send it tomorrow on his way out. He glanced at the glowing clock over his bed, the only light in the entire room when lightening didn't strike outside the window.
He could have easily taken up quarters in the Master Bedroom, but he felt so odd in there, sleeping in the bed that had belonged to his father. So, he made do sleeping in the bedroom he had grown up in. It was more comfortable and the only thing that felt like home.
With a sigh, Ruo leaned back in his hard woodenback chair, titling it back onto two legs and rested his arms behind his head. A nearly forgotten glass of Choya sat near the voice recorder. Udara had mentioned tea in her letter. She sent it by the caseful every chance she got. Whenever he opened another package he found himself chuckling. If she only kne how little of it he drank now in favor of the plum liquor.
~ORU!~
It had been three years since he had first heard his twin brother in that space between his mind and his ears and still it could catch him off guard. He nearly toppled backwards in the chair with a yelp of surprise.
"Are you trying to give me a heart attack?!" Ruo demanded peering up at the thin air above his head as though he could see his dead twin standing over him. When he was alone was the only time he dared speak aloud to Ryonosuke.
~Sorry. Its not my fault you get so wrapped up in those letters you forget everything else~ A teasing tone came into Ryonosuke's voice. ~Its kinda cute, actually. When are you gonna start dropping the formalities, bro?~
"We're friends, Reeyu," Ruo answered him patiently as he reached for the glass of choya.
~Uh huh.~ No matter how many times Ruo professed this, Ryonosuke never sounded convinced. But there was something more pressing on Ryonosuke's mind that evening than Ruo's lack of love life. ~You know what this weather is perfect for?~
Ruo glanced towards his small bedroom window in time to see a bright and breif explosion of lightening. The heart of the storm was still out to sea, but the edges of it had started to make landfall, causing the wind to howl and the rain to pour.
"No." Ruo looked away from the window and drained his glass.
~Aww, c'mone!~ Ryonosuke pleaded, ~You don't even know what I'm going to say yet!~
"Let me guess," Ruo grunted into his glass, "it starts with 'S' and ends with 'surf'." He set the glass down, "I don't want to stand in front of Commander Zoa tomorrow covered in bruises, thanks."
~You used to love stormsurfing.~ Ryonosuke pouted.
"You loved to stormsurf. " Ruo corrected, "I did it because you did."
~Then why do you still have your board. And mine for that matter?~
"Answers still no, Reeyu."
~C'mone, Oru!~ Ryonosuke pleaded relentlessly. ~Please. Please. Please. Please!~
Ruo squeezed his eyes shut, "and the chances of you shutting up so I can sleep are..."
~Pretty slim, I'd say.~
Ruo winced and then sighed relentlingly, "fine. We'll go." He got to his feet and reached for the black and purple board resting in teh corner of his room along with a wetsuit, "But for one hour. So enjoy it while you can."
