Mythological History:
It is said that the Golden Kingdom of Elysian still exists and that its keepers lay silently in wait for the day the Kingdom will be awakened and its golden people will once again tarry to and fro, busy in their lives of keeping peace and order on the third planet of Sol. It is said that the Priest/ess of Elysian is born once a generation, waiting secretly for the King to come. Sometimes they do not even know what it is that they are destined to protect, but you can always tell the Elysian Priests by their kind hearts, warm beings, and golden souls.
It is said that Elysian was once a kingdom of Health, Purity and Guidance, a mirror and complement to the Silver Millennium with its Temple of Promise as the central place of worship and blessing. Once upon a time, the two kingdoms existed upon the same plane, working together in tandem to keep peace and love alive in the System of Sol, and to fill its people with understanding, compassion and inner beauty.
It is said that Elysium was razed to the ground with the fall of the Silver Moon Kingdom. As the people of Earth burned, their bodies lay slain upon the rolling hillside unable to fight to defend themselves, news of the Earthen Prince's fall reached the ears of the Priest within the golden walls of the kingdom. There was no one left to protect the Earth, and the peace that lasted a thousand years under the rule of Serenity was shattered by a blackened greed so great that no love or kindness, or weapon of light, could stand up to it. With the war now upon their door, there was only one thing left to do as the ground shook beneath their feet.
Hide the city.
The magic that was once conjured so long ago is so ancient that Time has forgotten their birth took the lives of these golden people. A sacrifice so great and so desperate, but so worth the cost to keep the kingdom out of the grasp of such a wicked, wicked hate. Any scientist will tell you the theory of parallel universes, of dimensions and realms, but they have yet to prove it. Perhaps the kingdom lives upon another plane of existence where the vibrations of protons and electrons are different and out of phase with our own; hidden in plain sight though we are unable to see it. Hyperbola, maybe, where they would be safe among the Ethereal until it was time to return.
Perhaps, when the Golden Crystal is found and the song is sung to open the gates and the Keeper is found who knows the way to bring the Ruler home to their people, perhaps then the return of the kingdom shall come. Perhaps that is when the corporeal will walk the gardens to the other side and lead the unseen home again. When the Night and the Day lay side by side, and the peace is ready to return to the children of Sol, perhaps that is when the Golden Kingdom will once again be the center of the Third Planet, its empty gardens once again filled with the warmth of its caretakers and the golden throne once again holding its ruling body.
Factual History:
Elysion was the land of the Golden Kingdom of the Guardian of Earth, once known as Prince Endymion. As legend tells, it is the land of Elysion that protected the Earth both from within and from without. Indeed possible, Elysion existed on two realms: the corporeal realm of Earth where the Golden Kingdom reigned over the land and its people, and the Elysion Fields on the Spiritual Plane of existence that lived along, but out of phase with the Earth, like a second dimension that reaches into the actual soul of the planet.
The only way to reach the Elysion Fields and cross over into the Spiritual Plane is through the Temple of Promise, the central temple within the Golden Kingdom. Only the High Priest/Priestess of Elysion and a selected pair of Temple Maidens (known as the maenads) who dedicate their lives to the care of the Temple and the balance between Elysion, Earth and its Ruling Body are allowed to access this Temple. However, most of the responsibility is left in the hands of the High Priest/Priestess whose power comes from, and is conjured by, their prayers and the cleansing power of Elysian itself. Only under extreme circumstances will the High Priest/ess call for the aid of the Ruling Body to protect the Temple and the spiritual lands of Elysion. The Ruling Body only need otherwise attend the Temple on Holy Days or for the blessings of their High Priest/ess.
The last time the corporeal Golden Kingdom was seen was when Prince Endymion sat upon the golden throne during the time of the Silver Millennium and the splendid Queen Serenity. When Beryl's forces attacked and the Prince was said to be lost to the armies of evil that were now upon the doors of the Golden Kingdom, the Priest of Elysion knew the time had come to take drastic action. Not wanting their kingdom to be lost, which would leave the soul of Earth vulnerable to entire destruction, he, along with the maenads, called upon ancient magics to hide their city upon the spiritual plane of Elysion. In the process of such a powerful invocation, the great act took the lives of the maenads, the amount of energy needed for such a move leaving their physical bodies virtually moribund. This left the protection of Elysion, the Golden Crystal and the Kingdom in the hands of the High Guardian Priest Helios. The City, the People and the Life of the Kingdom was essentially put into suspension, into a spell of stasis, until the King can be found again to renew life in the city.
Unfortunately, the evil of Beryl was not completely eluded. A taint, a poisonous curse went with the city and infected the people. Over the course of Time, the contamination slowly ate away at the souls of the people and the kingdom left in stasis upon the Elysian Fields. Killing many still slumbering within the golden walls, the powerful prayers of the Priest were not enough to successfully stop such a foul contamination. Such peril was only greatened by the black blight cast over Earth and Elysian with the presence of the Black Moon Circus and the ‘reign’ of Nerehenia. When Helios went to the reborn Earth Prince and Moon Princess of the 20th century, the stain was forever lifted and salvation was gifted to the weakened, threatened Earth and Elysian Fields. Though the curse was lifted, the state of stasis the land slept in was preserved, as well as many of the sleeping lives that were saved by the powers of the Silver and Golden Crystals.
Over the course of Time leading up to the 30th century and the reign of Neo-Queen Serenity and Kingdom Endymion, the Guardian Priest Helios tended to the Elysian Fields and filled the Earth and Elysian with powerful prayers of protection and preservation. When the reign of Crystal Tokyo came to be, the powers of Usagi as Neo-Queen Serenity and Mamoru as King Endymion, the Silver and Golden Crystals' combined powers were enough to mend the slumbering city so that the inner land of Elysian could survive with its renewed, protective action.
When Neo-Queen Serenity and King Endymion established Crystal Tokyo upon the Earth proper in the 30th Century, it acted as almost a bridge between the Moon Kingdom and the Golden Kingdom, allowing the hibernating and phased out city to receive the magic from Crystal Tokyo almost by proximity. Nonetheless, Endymion and Helios were not able to return the Golden Kingdom to the corporeal side of Earth, and as such, the actual known location of the inner and outer Elysion Lands are far lost to the memories of man.
The rejuvenating powers of the Moon kept the city from decaying as long as Crystal Tokyo stood. After the fall of the city, and after the Moon Queen became only a story lost to history and myth, the Golden Kingdom once again began to decay from a new, extended period of stasis, with a lack of bodies to care for it, and the absence of its Ruling Body to wield the Golden Crystal, the life of Elysion and Earth.
Every generation since the death of Helios, a High Priest/ess is born with the ability to find and access the lost Temple of Promise, to carry the Golden Crystal and to recognize their King, the one who will bring the Kingdom home and raise it anew, if ever he is born again. Many times are these Priests unable to know any of such history, and thus go their whole lives without feeling or suspecting anything. Some times, once in a great many years, one is born who sees this very real past in dreams, and walks about the Earth with their eyes open for some sort of sign. What this sign may be remains unknown, but they internally know they will recognize it when they see it.
