~THE PERSON~
Name: Ruo Meiyahima
Ailiases: Oru (nick name in twinspeech)
Birthdate: 9/28
Age: 27
Personality: Though Ruo has a very strong personality, he tends to be guarded and reserved. He does not say what is on his mind, especially to those he does not know. When asked directly, he will think carefully about what he will say and then skew his opinion to fit that he thinks the other wants to hear. He is extremely polite to people in position of power and rank. Though he has a very strong will and can be as stubborn as any Meiyahima, Ruo often finds himself giving in to those who apply enough of the right kind of pressure on him. This is probably because Ruo is eager to please and desperate to prove himself. Because he is not an outgoing person, Ruo does not have a large circle of friends, and he is content with that. He prefers small groups of people.
Self Perception: Ruo sees himself merely as the default patriarch of his brittle family. He is fully aware that those of power in both military and civilian circles look sideways at him. He believes they do not believe he can live up to the legacy left by both his father and his brother. While he is eager to prove them otherwise, he is not completely sure that they are wrong. It does not help that he does not see himself as a military man, and resents being forced to return to Neptune to be one.
Mannerisms/Habits: He is extremely polite towards those who he sees as his superiors, always using honorifics of Miss, Ma’am, or Sir. This is especially true when speaking to someone older than him. Ruo speaks with his hands, and actually will find it very hard to iterate what he has to say if his hands are forced to keep still. When he is deep in concentration the tip of his tongue protrudes out of the left corner of his mouth.
Pet Peeves: He does not like being in loud boisterous places where he has to shout to be heard by someone right next to him. He hates to be surprised. He also dislikes having his personal space invaded. Hates eavesdroppers.
Hobbies: Ruo knows how to play the piano and enjoys all kinds of music. He has a voracious appetite to learn, especially obscure history and trivia. Ruo knows a little about a lot of things. He is very active and enjoys sports. He is especially good at football (soccer).
Family:
~~Satoshi Meiyahima—Father (deceased)
As a Regent General in the Amphian High Navy, Satoshi was known as a great leader and was highly respected. He attempted to teach his children to have great pride in their family as well as themselves. As the second born, Ruo was not very close to Satoshi and was more than eager to get his father’s attention.
~~Lavina Meiyahima—Mother
Lavina is not a Neptunian by birth, but she loves her home. She is known to be a quiet sort of woman, content to allow her husband to be an authoritarian, though she was the one who made the rules. Ruo was closer to his mother than he was his father. The two of them share many of the same traits. Lavina is a fragile sort of woman. After the deaths of her husband and then her eldest son, Ryonsuke, she became very depressed. She became a recluse, not going out of her way to see or speak to anyone. The only one she does seem to have any desire to speak to or have around is Ruo. Ruo has moved her from the Meiyahima family estate on the planet’s surface to a smaller home in the Triton Colony. Ruo is highly protective of her.
~~Ryonosuke Meiyahima—Brother
Ryonosuke is a natural leader with a powerful personality that will not easily be denied. As Ruo’s twin brother, the two were extremely close growing up and were inseparable most of the time. Ryonosuke was the planner and the more outgoing of the twins, he came up with their special twinspeech that the two of them still use today. As the eldest male, Ryonosuke entered the Amphian High Navy and reached the rank of Captain before he was killed in action.
~~Mami-Rin Meiyahima—Sister
The youngest of the Meiyahima clan, Mami-Rin is 17 years old. She has a very strong outgoing personality. She resists being told what to do. As the youngest and the only girl, Mami-Rin found she could get just about anything she wanted out of her father and even her older brothers just by giving them a look. Ruo is usually inclined to give into his sister’s demands. The two are quite playful, often teasing each other.
Residence: Meiyahima Estate, Capital City, Amphi.
Occupation: Lieutenant in the Amphian High Navy
Social Status: The name Meiyahima is quite affluent and influential in Neptunian society, however, Ruo’s own influence is quite limited. There are many in society who do not believe Ruo is able to follow in either his father’s or brother’s footsteps.
Income: He makes enough money by Navy standards to live comfortably.
Established Connections:
~~Ryonosuke Meiyahima—Twin Brother
~~Udara Dunia—Good Friend
~~Dr. Maso Dunia-- Professor and mentor
~~Liora Satomi--Acquaintence
Talents: Ruo very easily picks up foreign languages. He is a very talented cook.
Strengths: Ruo is highly intelligent and learns easily and quickly. He has an eye for detail. He is a skilled fighter, favoring hand-to-hand over weapons.
Weaknesses: Due to self doubt, Ruo gives into pressure too easily. He is bitter about being in the Navy. Ruo is prone to fits of what his father would have called melancholy.

~Character~
Biography: The younger of the twins, Ruo grew up mostly in Ryonosuke's shadow. He was always content to let his more outgoing, more self assured twin take center stage. He didn't crave the attention from others as Ryonosuke did. In fact, he hated being the center of attention, always becoming shy and introverted the moment the spotlight was aimed at him. Ryonosuke always made sure that Ruo got whatever credit was his, but Ruo himself never asked for it. He always had been modest to a fault.
His connection with Ryonosuke was a strong one. Neither he or Ryo ever thought it strange since they had grown up with it. It was only natural for each to feel what the other did to the point where it almost became their own. Didn't all brothers have such a bond? It came as a surprise to Ruo to find out that wasn't the case and made what he and Ryonsouke shared all the more important.
A less impetuous youth, Ruo was the only person in the world who could talk Ryonosuke out of a bad idea. Of course the other two would fight considerably as siblings do. Especially if Ruo was attempting to talk some sense into his twin. However, Ryonosuke usually would cave into his brother's logic and reason. There were the rare occasions in which Ryonosuke would be too stubborn to be reasoned with, and Ruo found himself tagging along for the ride if for nothing else than to hope to shift some of the trouble onto himself.
Ruo was an awkward teenager. He was not groomed as Ryonosuke had been to take over as a family Patriarch and therefore lacked a lot of the confidence and social know-how needed to create and sustain one's reputation in the upper levels of Amphian society. If he did not have the name Meiyahima, he probably would have been overlooked completely. Ryonosuke would often attempt to push him to be more outgoing and Ruo good naturedly would go along with him. However, he had his small handful of friends and would be content with that.
Though his mother, Lavina, loved Neptune, she did not love the civil war that gripped the planet. Despite the war having been in remission for most her sons' childhoods, having one son in military service was enough. She feared with Ryonosuke enlisted, Ruo would follow soon after. It was a sign of wealth and influence to be able to send your children away for school, and Lavina grabbed hold of such an opportunity to send both Mami-Rin and Ruo to school off of Neptune. She did not just choose any school on any planet, but she chose one of the most prestigious universities on Earth. At first Ruo had no desire to leave his home or his family. However, he was told it was his responsibility to be sure that Mami-rin was well taken care of offplanet.
Once he reached Earth and started to attend classes, Ruo found himself thriving and flourishing. He excelled in his classes and became quite popular among his peers, none of which knew the name Meiyahima from any other name. He still shied away from being the center of attention and continued his modest nature. He was well known, but only had a handful of friends as he had while on Neptune. He found he had a strong desire to learn, and if a certain subject caught his attention, he devoured everything he possibly could about that subject.
The one thing his new life lacked was his twin. He missed Ryonosuke badly. But he was happy for his brother when he heard how well Ryonosuke was doing (finally). Ryonosuke kept in constant contact with Ruo. Electronic intersolar correspondence came from him at least twice a week until he was deployed. Then they came whenever Ryonosuke was in a port in which he could send something. Ruo attempted to respond as often as he could, but compared to the fast paced life of a navel seaman, Ruo's calmer life of studying history and politics was down right dull. So he found his brother's stories to be entertaining and looked forward to them.
As his studies started to draw to a close, Ruo found he had a decision to make. His mother had hoped that with an education on a planet that was not militaristic nor entrenched in civil conflict would provide her children with the necessary knowledge and tools to return home and help put an end to the war. However, as that time was approaching, Ruo found that despite the fact he missed his family and home, he had no desire to return to the war torn planet for any reason. He had successfully carved out his life on Earth and that was where he really wanted to stay. He had started to make hesitant preparations to do just that and find a job. He started to prepare himself for his final exams with the intent that he would continue his education on earth and perhaps gain a doctorates degree in cosmic history. And then, after that, maybe he'd stay on Earth and teach. After all, what else was he going to do with that kind of degree?
Before his final exams could start, however, Ruo was overcome with a feeling of dread and anxiety. He woke out of a sound sleep with an intense migraine that would not leave him alone no matter what remedy he tried. The following day he received word that his father had died at sea. Two days after that, he received word that his brother had been killed in action.
Instantly, Ruo's entire world crashed around him with crushing force. He remained in a sort of shell shocked state for several days. Dr. Dunia interceded on Ruo's behalf to convince school's officials to put off Ruo's final exams until after he had time to return home and help his mother prepare the necessary arrangements for both Ryonosuke and Satoshi.
Shortly before he was to return to Neptune, Ruo became aware that he was not alone. Even when he believed he was completely alone in his room at night, he felt as though someone was there with him. It was a presence he had become so used to while growing up that at first he couldn't place it because it was so natural. It wasn't until he heard Ryonosuke for the first time speaking to him, as though he were whispering into his brain that Ruo realized what had happened. At first he feared he was going insane with grief. However, he and Ryonosuke both came to the conclusions that if Ruo was going insane, he probably wouldn't be questioning it.
Ruo and Mami-Rin returned to Neptune to find their mother withdrawn and unable to make any decisions on her own. Even getting her out of bed in the morning was a task. Ruo had no choice but to take charge of memorial services. He knew he would not be returning to Earth. Even before his father's colleagues and peers took him aside to remind him of his obligations now that he was the only surviving male of the Meiyahima Family.
Ruo returned Mami-Rin to earth with no intention of ever bringing her back to Neptune. He enrolled in Regent's Academy and enlisted himself in the Navy. As he had done on Earth, Ruo did very well in his studies. Of course, the fact that he had the help of an officer who had already gone through the process never came to light.
Despite his success and quick climb to the rank of Lieutenant in a little more than three years, Ruo found that he had not gained any of the same respect that his father or brother had. The fact that he was a second born male whose only reason for even returning to Neptune was the fact that he had no choice tarnished whatever reputation he hoped to make.
